We’re On Holiday!
We are closed now until Monday 22nd July for a little family holiday time. If you want to place any online orders feel free and we will put them together for you when we return on Monday 22nd.
Before I log off for the holidays I just want to leave you this wee blog of the Roman Blind which I made for my wee men’s bedroom which to my shame is well overdue.
I bought a kit which supplied all the tapes and rods etc needed to complete the project. I have made a Roman Blind before. It turned out ok but not perfect so I was sure that I was going to learn from my mistakes from it. The key to making one is MEASURE, MEASURE, MEASURE!! otherwise they are quick and fairly easy to do.
I began by measuring my window and adding a further 2cm seam allowance to the sides and top seams and added 6cm to the bottom.
I chose a heavy weight dark denim fabric which would sit nicely when gathered on the folds and doesn’t need any lining added to it.
I ironed it, measured it and cut it to size then folded in the sides and top seams and stiched them in place using red thread for a fun contrast.
I then repeated this for the bottom seam, leaving either end open to insurt the rod.
Next I pinned on the velcro to the top hem and stitched in place
Then I measured out my fabric evenly and drew a line with tailors chalk to mark were to sew on the rod tape.
My rods and main bar were a fraction to long so my hubby give them a chop for me
I then insurted the rods
Attached the blind to the main bar along the velcro strip
Brought the string from the bar down through the holes which are on the rod tape and secured in place with hooks that came in pack.
Then my hubby drilled holes for me to secure the bracked in place
And VOILA!!
Very pleased with the final result, just need to take it down to give it a little iron, as the creases in the fabric are making me cringe.
And whilst it was being put in placed and photgraphed at near 11pm there were two little men fast asleep completely none the wiser 🙂
Just one final note if you decide to make one and it will be hung in a childs room or there are children around.
